Whether your organisation is just starting its journey of transition to net zero or one that is net zero by design, this three-part series will explore learnings and practical takeaways from Formula E.
Formula E is the leading global championship for electric motorsports and also the first, and only, sport to be certified net zero carbon footprint from inception.
Justin works with many companies to help them to build purpose-led, long-term sustainable businesses to survive and thrive in complex, often ambiguous and uncertain business and regulatory environments.
Roger has been active across Andretti Autosport since 2014 in Motorsports Development. He leads the Banbury, UK based Formula E and Extreme E operations and has led Andretti Formula E to seven wins and 17 podiums across seven seasons.
In this first of our three-part series, recorded ahead of the start of the 2022 Formula E season, Roger and Justin discuss the importance of linking sustainability to purpose and strategy to really embed the principles and make a difference.
You will hear about how to get things off the ground, what challenges come into play and how to set targets and continue to improve from your current position.
Roger also gives his view on the role of defined standards such as Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in relation to sustainability and hones in on the S of ESG when looking at how the sport is seeking to make a social impact to promote inclusivity and diversity.
Justin and Roger talk about how sustainability helps to drive performance and innovation. Taking a deeper dive into how the Avalanche Andretti race team measures success, the role of sustainability in keeping it on track and what other organisations in different sectors can learn from Formula E’s experiences. Roger also shares how he sees the relationship between Formula One and Formula E and how the two complement each other, particularly in enabling the race to net zero.
To close the series, Roger gives us his view on what it takes to be successful in sustainability and the role communication, engagement and collaboration play in this success.
Justin and Roger cover the particular challenge of Scope 3 emissions and how these are tackled within the sport as well as how Formula E is engaging with their suppliers in this area, striking a balance between engaging and educating them, while setting a minimum bar for suppliers to reach.
