Immigration passes & programs


Employment Pass (EP)

An Employment Pass (EP) allows foreign professionals to legally live and work in Malaysia under the sponsorship of a Malaysian‑registered company.

Key Benefits:

  • Legal employment and long‑term residence in Malaysia.
  • Renewable subject to employment validity.
  • Eligible to bring their spouse and children below 18 years via a Dependent Pass (DP).
  • Multiple‑entry visa for international travel.

Company Eligibility Requirements:

The hiring company must demonstrate that the position:

  • Is of strategic importance, and
  • Cannot be filled by a local Malaysian candidate.

Dependent Pass (DP)

A Dependent Pass (DP) allows the immediate family members of an Employment Pass holder to reside in Malaysia.

Eligible Dependents:

  • Legally married spouse
  • Children below 18 years of age (including legally adopted children)

Key Conditions:

  • DP is tied to the validity of the principal Employment Pass.
  • Dependent Pass holders are not permitted to work or earn income in Malaysia.
  • Separate work authorisation is required if employment is intended.

Validity:

  • Matches the duration of the principal Employment Pass.
  • Renewable upon renewal of the EP.
Professional Visit Pass (PVP)

The Professional Visit Pass (PVP) allows skilled foreigners to work in Malaysia temporarily while remaining employed by their overseas company. This pass is typically issued for project-based or specialist assignments.

Key Highlights:

  • Valid up to 12 months.
  • Holder must remain employed by the foreign company.
  • Cannot enter into direct employment with the Malaysian company.
Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H)

The MM2H Programme offers long-term residency for foreigners seeking to live in Malaysia with their family.

Benefits:

  • Renewable long-term residency.
  • Bring spouse, children (under 35), and parents & parents in law.
  • Eligible to purchase property (minimum value varies by state).
  • Tax-free remittance of offshore income and pensions.
  • Excellent healthcare, education and lifestyle opportunities.

Residence Pass-Talent (RP-T)

The RP-T provides highly skilled expatriates with a 10-year multiple-entry work pass that offers greater flexibility compared to the Employment Pass.

Key Benefits:

  • Work and reside in Malaysia for 10 years (renewable).
  • Freedom to change employers without employment pass.
  • Dependents eligible for long-term passes.

Eligibility:

  • Currently working in Malaysia under an Employment Pass for a minimum of three (3) consecutive years.
  • Holds a valid Employment Pass with a minimum of three (3) months’ validity at the time of application or resubmission.
  • Earns a basic monthly salary of RM15,000 (excluding allowances and bonuses).
  • Has a Malaysian income tax file number and has paid taxes for at least the most recent two (2) years. The declared yearly basic salary must be a minimum of RM180,000, aligning with the required monthly income.
  • Holds a PhD, Master’s, Bachelor’s Degree, or Diploma in any field from a recognised university; Alternatively, holds a professional or competency certification from a recognised professional institute.
  • Possesses a minimum of five (5) years of total work experience.
Spouse Visa

Foreigners married to Malaysian citizens can apply for a renewable Spouse Visa, valid for up to 5 years.

Key Benefits:

  • Multiple-entry and long-term stay in Malaysia.
  • Eligibility to work with a Permission to Work (PTW) endorsement.
  • Renewable as long as the marriage remains valid.

Application:

  • Submitted at state immigration offices.
  • Specific conditions apply for certain nationalities (e.g. China, Nigeria).
Digital Nomad Visa (DE Rantau Nomad Pass)

Malaysia’s DE Rantau Nomad Pass is designed for location‑independent professionals who wish to live in Malaysia while working remotely for overseas employers or clients.

Key Benefits:

  • Long‑term stay in Malaysia (up to 12 months).
  • Renewable can be done 2 months prior to the pass's expiry, for a total of up to 24 months
  • Multiple‑entry visa allowing unrestricted travel.
  • No requirement to secure local employment.
  • Access to Malaysia’s DE Rantau ecosystem, including co‑working spaces and nomad communities.
  • Eligible to bring spouse and dependents (subject to approval).

Eligibility:

  • Remote worker or digital freelancer working for non‑Malaysian entities.
  • Minimum annual income requirement (varies by profession category).
  • Valid passport and health insurance coverage.
  • Proof of employment, contracts or business ownership outside Malaysia.

Investor Pass (Social Visit Pass with Multiple‑Entry Visa – MEV)

A Social Visit Pass with a Multiple-Entry Visa (MEV) facility was introduced effective 1 April 2025 for business visitors and foreign investors who have committed to invest in Malaysia through recognised investment agencies or relevant authorities.

Key Benefits:

  • Stay in Malaysia for up to 6 months per entry.
  • Option to apply for a one‑time extension of an additional 6 months.
  • Multiple‑entry access throughout the pass validity period.
  • Longer stay compared to a standard Social Visit Pass (typically up to 90 days).

Type of Investor Pass:

  • New Investor - Potential investors who have not had any investment record in Malaysia.
  • Investor in Pipeline - Potential investors who have been identified as interested in making investments in Malaysia, are currently in negotiations with the Malaysian Government or have applied to MIDA for project approvals.
  • Existing Investor* - Investors who have investment records in Malaysia and SSM registered companies but are not under the employment of the company or any companies in Malaysia.

*The Existing Investor category is only available for Manufacturing and Selected Services sectors under MIDA’s purview.
