Introduction

Malaysian small and medium enterprises (“SMEs”) and Mid-Tier Companies (“MTCs”) have a powerful opportunity to future-proof their operations and align with global sustainability standards. The Domestic Investment Accelerator Fund for ESG Adoption (“DIAF-ESG”), administered by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (“MIDA”), provides crucial financial support for this transition.

Unlock Sustainable Growth with Malaysia’s DIAF-ESG Grant

The DIAF-ESG is a strategic matching grant initiative launched by the government to bolster local enterprises in the manufacturing and specific service sectors. Its core purpose is to ease the financial burden of integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (“ESG”) principles into business models.

Successful applicants can receive a 50% reimbursement on qualified expenses, with a maximum support cap of RM 500,000. This funding can be allocated towards essential first steps in the ESG journey, including:

  • Validation, verification, and certification for ESG compliance and carbon emission tracking.
  • First-year subscriptions for dedicated software systems used to monitor ESG metrics and greenhouse gas (“GHG”) emissions.

A Time-Sensitive Opportunity

The program commenced accepting applications on April 24, 2024. It is critical for interested businesses to note that the initiative is not permanent; it is scheduled to conclude in December 2025, or potentially earlier if the allocated funds are fully committed.

This structure creates a pressing need for timely action. Companies are urged to proactively assess their eligibility and prepare their submissions to secure funding before the program's expiration.

Is Your Business Eligible?

The grant is specifically designed for Malaysian-owned companies (with at least 51% Malaysian equity) that have been operational for a minimum of three years. Eligible entities must fall under the SME or MTC classification and operate within the manufacturing sector or one of the selected service sectors, such as logistics, tourism, healthcare, or oil and gas services.
