Introduction

This is a practical course on Managing Projects. A Project Manager has to plan the whole project and manage it well to deliver results – and this applies to all kinds of projects, whether it’s product development, launching a new store, implementing an IT system, driving a change management initiative, or even organising the Annual Dinner and Dance.

Throughout this workshop, participants will find answers to the questions every Project Manager eventually faces: How do you make sure all the tasks are listed? Are the time estimates accurate? Are the tasks sequenced correctly based on their dependencies? Have you built a Gantt Chart for the shortest possible timespan, and do you know which is the Critical Path? What happens when change requests come on after the scope has been agreed? How do you manage risks, catch up when you’re behind schedule and ultimately define what success looks like for the project? And perhaps most importantly, what are the 13 common pitfalls that trip up most projects and how do you avoid them. 

Objectives

• Know what is needed to plan your project – tasks, resources, time estimates that include “time stealers” and necessary documentation
• Know the technical and people skills needed to manage the project
  • Estimate time, focus on Critical Path
  • Deal with change request and scope changes
  • Conflict management, team dynamics, give instructions, listen to others, get a consensus, reduce stress and manage time.
