Paul Cox

Partner, Corporate Tax
Midlands

I have over 20 years’ experience building relationships with inbound, owner managed and private equity backed businesses to provide tax advice and wider professional support on a full range of business issues.

I joined the Tax team in 2017, having spent his initial working career within the Big Four accountancy firms.

I am focused on providing practical and commercial advice, particularly in relation to Corporate Tax, supporting clients on a range of issues varying from helping clients meet their tax compliance requirements and maximise tax reliefs such as R&D, to carrying out bespoke tax efficient planning, for example structuring for acquisitions and disposals and employee/management incentivisation.

Having previously undertaken secondments into industry and with one of the UK’s largest Mergers and Acquisitions teams, I am able to draw upon this relevant experience to understand both the demands on a client’s time and the key tax issues facing companies throughout their lifecycle, which is particularly relevant to private equity-backed businesses. Supporting management teams through the increased complexity of a private equity structure, particularly around debt, as well as being focused on the ultimate exit to ensure no unexpected tax issues arise at this stage.

From an industry perspective, I co-lead our growing technology sector in our Midlands and South West region, as well as having significant client base in manufacturing and renewable energy.
