US Government Auditing
We understand the impact that recent US Government funding cuts have had on the Non Profit sector. Our grant specialist team are here to help.

Our team are Yellow Book or Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS) trained and attend regular courses on government auditing to maintain their required accreditation. We have a vast range of experience in auditing U.S Government funding including USAID, US State Department, US Fish and Wildlife Services, United States Institute of Peace< Title IV Loan Schemes and others. Our team will help you understand the requirements of your agreement and what documentation is required to comply. We work with our clients to help provide the evidence and support needed to prevent ineligible expenditure and clawbacks. We are able to help with close out audits of USAID grants.

We provide training delivered by experts on areas such as compliance with grant conditions from specific funders, meeting value for money requirements and the wider governance and management issues facing both grant makers and recipients. This provides an opportunity for our clients to attend training alongside our team.

We have a proven track record of delivering U.S. Single Audits in full compliance with 2CFR Part 200, Subpart F of the Uniform Guidance, which governs audit requirements for non-Federal entities expending $1,000,000 or more in Federal awards annually. Our grants team has successfully completed Single Audits for clients including Research Institutions and universities. Leveraging our deep understanding of Uniform Guidance requirements, we provide assurance over compliance with federal program rules, internal controls, and reporting obligations, helping clients maintain eligibility for future funding.
European Commission funding
At Crowe, we have extensive experience of delivering audit certificates in accordance with the European Commission’s requirements for all three funding streams under Horizon Europe.

Horizon Europe

We conduct audits under the Horizon Europe programme in full alignment with the European Commission’s agreed-upon procedures (AUP) framework in order to submit Certificates on the Financial Statements (CFS) for projects exceeding the €430,000 threshold. Our team has extensive experience with Horizon Europe projects, including those funded through the Innovative Medicines Initiative 2 (IMI 2), European Research Council (ERC), and Research and Innovation Actions.

Horizon Europe Guarantee (UKRI)


We understand the specific requirements of the UK Research and Innovation (“UKRI”) Horizon Europe Guarantee scheme, which supports UK-based entities participating in Horizon Europe. Our audit approach is adapted to meet the UKRI expectations for financial assurance, eligibility verification, and documentation standards, while aligning with the underlying Horizon Europe rules. We have audited UKRI Horizon Europe Guarantee schemes for a number of clients in the corporate and Higher Education sector.

Horizon 2020

We have long-standing experience of delivering audit certifications for Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe projects within the Higher Education sector. Our team has conducted audits for both coordinators and partners across a wide range of EU-funded research programmes. These engagements have covered funding from Research and Innovation Actions, ERC-funded projects, IMI 2 Joint Undertaking programmes, CINEA LIFE and other EU instruments.
Innovate UK audits

We have a strong track record of delivering Innovate UK audit certificates for a wide variety of clients in the Higher Education, Corporate and INGO sectors. Our audits are conducted in full alignment with the Innovate UK audit programme, utilising the prescribed templates and formats outlined in Annexes 5 and 7 of the Grant Offer Letters.

Our audit methodology is specifically designed to meet the expectations of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), ensuring robust financial assurance, verification of cost eligibility, and adherence to documentation standards. This includes timely completion of certificates, effective communication with client teams, and high-quality deliverables that support compliance and transparency.
