We have an exciting opportunity for a Controller. The controller will use data to help leadership make informed financial decisions to support the firm’s continued growth and success. This is a hybrid role. The successful candidate must be able to commute to our Toronto office as needed.

Reporting to the Director, Finance, the Controller will be a strong team player with a customer service approach for both internal and external clients, as well as a strong aptitude for numbers and a sense of urgency is essential in this role. Their expertise will be vital in supporting our period end close process, preparing account reconciliations, and providing invaluable financial analysis for our monthly reports.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, and other ad hoc management reports
  • Manage period end close activities including journal entry preparations, account reconciliations including WIP, AR/AP and expense accounts
  • Support the development of the annual operating budgets, work with operational leads to prepare department budgets and forecasts as well as work on variance analysis
  • Responding to internal firm requests and inquiries, running reports, and resolving issues
  • Assist with cash flow, planning and forecasting 
  • Assist in the preparation of spreadsheets, charts and diagrams showing prior, current, budget, and projected revenues and expenditures to provide a basis for comparison and evaluation
  • Assist with the preparation of written reports and presentations summarizing financial performance and providing insight to internal stakeholders, including senior management
  • Prepare ad hoc financial analysis and reports, as well as assist with finance projects as requested
  • Provide assistance in preparing bank reconciliation statements and ensuring adjustment of outstanding items
  • Preparing working papers and participating in financial audits
  • Work in collaboration with the Management Committee and stakeholders as needed
  • Support the finance team to streamline accounting policies and procedures  
  • Support and collaborate with the finance team, providing backup to other positions as needed
  • Other duties as assigned 
     

Qualifications:

  • 2 - 3 years’ experience in a similar role in an accounting firm or professional services environment
  • Appropriate and relevant undergraduate degree (commerce, accounting, or finance)
  • CPA, strongly preferred  
  • Extensive experience with financial software applications (Dynamics 365 an asset)
  • Proven knowledge and experience with financial forecasting, diagnosis, and information analysis
  • Proficient in MS Office, advanced excel skills 
  • Strong presentation, reporting and communication skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage time effectively
  • Demonstrate flexibility to accommodate work demands
  • Strong team-player attitude and the ability to work independently
  • Initiative-driven mindset with excellent analytical skills
  • Able to identify issues, analyze, generate alternatives, implement and support a solution both their own and those of others
  • Thorough by nature, exceptional analytical skills 
  • Very detail oriented with strong organizational skills
