Fast-Pace? I Was Born For It

It’s only been a year since I started with the firm but what a year it’s been. I can honestly say my time with Crowe MacKay has been the most challenging of my career, and I wouldn’t change a minute of it. I remember being in my interview with Alena and her saying are you ready for a fast-paced environment? My response being “I was born for it.” Well, thank god for that, because it has been like driving down the autobahn since day one. There has never been a dull moment. My official start date was on August 20, 2018, but Bruce insisted that I attend the Edmonton staff golf tournament on August 16. My first thought was, are you kidding me? A golf tournament! I am not a golfer whatsoever and to top it off I was going to be spending the day on a team with my boss, who happens to be the CEO. Always wanting to set a great first impression, I was sweating bullets. I couldn’t even hold a golf club. Needless to say, Bruce still reminds me of how “talented” I am on the course. (Fast forward to the 2019 tournament and I am not on Bruce’s team, but still manage to beat him … so maybe I wasn’t the weakest link after all Bruce!).

After this thrilling day on the green, the real work started the following Monday. I came fought with the beloved Citrix for three days (and nearly quit because if I couldn’t master software how the heck was I going to run marketing for the entire firm?!?). Persevered, and by day four considered myself a master of Citrix (but not really).
