Q&A – frequently asked questions about AI Governance

When does the EU AI Act come into force? Should we act now? 
Yes. The EU AI Act will come into force from 2026, but preparations must begin much earlier. The process of classifying models, conducting a compliance audit, implementing policies and training teams takes from several to several months. The earlier you start, the lower the risk of sanctions and downtime. 
Do I need to implement AI Governance before the AI Act comes into force?

Definitely yes. Failure to prepare by the time the regulations come into force can result in non-compliance, loss of reputation and heavy penalties. Early implementation of AI Governance allows you to identify risks, develop documentation, and embed AI management into organizational structures. 

How long does it take to implement AI Governance?

The full implementation of AI Governance usually takes between 16 and 20 weeks, depending on the scale of the use of AI in the organization, data availability and process readiness. The process includes analysis of the current state, risk audit, policy development, implementation of procedures and training of teams. For companies that already have partial solutions (e.g. GDPR, risk management), it is possible to accelerate selected stages. 

Are we responsible for AI provided by external companies (e.g. software house)?

Yes – the full responsibility for legal compliance lies with the organization that uses the AI system, regardless of who designed it. This means that your company must evaluate the model provided, document its operation, and meet the requirements of the AI Act (e.g., classification, registration, audit). 

Does AI Governance only apply to tech companies?

No. AI Governance applies to all companies that use AI, regardless of industry. Examples are:

Do all AI models need to be evaluated?

Is the board responsible for AI errors?

Are current GDPR procedures sufficient?

No. While the GDPR provides a good basis (e.g., explainability, data minimization), the AI Act imposes additional obligations:

Is generative AI (e.g. ChatGPT, Midjourney, Claude) also regulated?
