A few months can make a significant difference where AI is concerned. When we examined the NetSuite 2026.1 release, we noted a central theme: AI was moving closer to everyday work. Rather than sitting outside the enterprise resource planning (ERP) environment as a separate tool, AI was beginning to appear in accounting, inventory, analytics, and development workflows. More than record and report activity, the NetSuite platform could interpret information and bring important signals forward.
The NetSuite 2026.2 release advances that story. AI is no longer simply appearing in individual workflows. With NetSuite Next, Ask Oracle, and a growing collection of AI capabilities, the interaction model itself is changing. Instead of requiring users to know which report, saved search, record, or menu holds an answer, NetSuite Next software allows users to begin with the business question. At the same time, new AI capabilities in finance, inventory, pricing, and development demonstrate how AI can move from answering questions toward supporting specific business processes.
For business leaders, the implications extend beyond adopting another set of features. Organizations should consider whether their data, customizations, permissions, and processes are ready for an ERP environment in which people interact with business information through AI.
NetSuite Next provides the clearest indication of the direction of the NetSuite platform. Oracle describes Ask Oracle as the AI-powered assistant available in NetSuite Next. Users can interact with it through natural language to retrieve business information and insights. Oracle provides examples ranging from requesting a list of overdue invoices to asking for a bar chart of sales by item.
This capability represents an important progression from NetSuite 2026.1 capabilities. AI embedded in a particular workflow can help someone complete that workflow faster. NetSuite Next introduces the possibility of using conversation as an entry point into multiple workflows and sources of business information.
The distinction becomes clearer in the 2026.2 updates to Ask Oracle. Users can attach common business documents, including PDF, Microsoft™ Word, Microsoft Excel™, and Microsoft PowerPoint™ files, and ask questions about their contents. Users also can select an effort level for a request while job details provide visibility into how Ask Oracle divides some complex prompts into multiple tasks.
NetSuite Next is rolling out to customers in phases, so availability varies by account. Oracle also provides eligible organizations with Next Preview, which uses a copy of NetSuite account data so administrators can explore the AI-powered interface without affecting the primary account. That phased approach gives organizations an opportunity to think about NetSuite Next as more than an interface update. It creates time to consider how people will work when asking a question becomes as important as knowing where to click.
The evolution becomes more significant when Ask Oracle moves beyond general questions. NetSuite describes skills as reusable guidance that helps Ask Oracle respond consistently to repeatable business questions. Rather than requiring users to provide the same instructions and context with every prompt, a skill gives Ask Oracle a defined approach to analyzing a particular business task.
The NetSuite 2026.2 release adds core skills for several operational activities. They include analyzing fulfillment performance, viewing inventory balances, reviewing the inventory effect of transactions, assisting with item creation, reviewing pricing configurations, and creating basic event-based NetSuite SuiteFlow workflow drafts from natural-language requests.
These skills move the conversation beyond whether AI can summarize information. A fulfillment skill, for example, can apply a consistent analysis pattern across picking, packing, shipping, and the broader fulfillment life cycle to identify delays or bottlenecks. An inventory impact skill can review and explain how transactions affect inventory.
Oracle’s broader catalog of core skills also includes patterns for payment prioritization, overdue receivables, liquidity checks, and sales performance analysis. Oracle identifies these as read-only skills that users can invoke within Ask Oracle. The difference is subtle but important. AI starts with a question. Skills offer a repeatable business method.
A conversational ERP experience only works when AI understands the underlying business context. One of the more consequential 2026.2 enhancements allows Ask Oracle to use saved searches that a user has permission to access. Users can provide a saved search title or script ID, ask a question about the results, and receive the response through Ask Oracle. Saved searches can be added directly as context for prompts.
For established NetSuite platform environments, that capability could make years of configuration more valuable. Saved searches frequently contain organization-specific logic such as definitions of overdue receivables, operational exceptions, transaction populations, inventory conditions, or other business measures. Connecting that logic to Ask Oracle can give NetSuite Next context that reflects how an organization already operates.
Custom records and fields receive similar treatment. NetSuite 2026.2 adds an AI description field for custom records, custom fields, and custom transactions. Administrators can provide a description of up to 280 characters explaining the business meaning of an object so AI features can interpret it more accurately. An advanced record customization feature provides a central location for administrators to review and override AI descriptions.
These capabilities introduce another dimension to ERP data governance. A field name that makes sense to the employee who created it five years ago might not communicate enough context to an AI system. Organizations now have another reason to document what their customizations mean and how they support the business.
The 2026.1 release showed AI moving into financial workflows, particularly in close and reconciliation processes. NetSuite 2026.2 continues that trajectory. Intelligent Close Manager now supports organization-defined close tasks alongside system-generated tasks and can generate narrative insights about close progress. The accounting tab also incorporates intercompany eliminations into the close workflow.
Bank reconciliation moves further toward exception-based work. A new Match Suggestions experience brings likely matches into the reconciliation workflow. This NetSuite software can suggest creating and applying payments when an imported bank transaction corresponds to an eligible open invoice or payable. Additional 2026.2 enhancements can automatically submit certain exact matches generated by reconciliation rules.
A continued theme from 2026.1 is that automation increasingly handles predictable activity while finance professionals concentrate on transactions that require investigation or judgment. But the 2026.2 release adds something important to that story. With NetSuite Next and Ask Oracle developing alongside transactional automation, finance teams are changing how work gets processed as well as gaining another way to interrogate the information surrounding that work.
The same pattern appears outside finance. The new Inventory Optimization feature uses demand patterns, lead-time variability, and service-level targets to support reorder point planning. For eligible item locations, NetSuite capabilities can calculate planning parameters such as lead time, safety stock, reorder point, and preferred stock level. Exception Management can then identify projected stockouts, shortages, and overstocks for review.
Pricing receives additional context and analytics. Sales order lines can show whether base pricing, rule-based pricing, or customer-specific pricing determines a final price. New pricing analytics help teams compare realized revenue and margin performance with expectations.
NetSuite Configure, Price, Quote (CPQ) software also introduces a direct generative AI experience. The CPQ AI Assistant uses natural-language conversation to guide sales representatives and buyers through product and service configuration. The assistant can collect configuration requirements, clarify options, and provide recommendations during the process. Together, these enhancements reinforce the larger 2026.2 direction. AI is becoming less isolated from transactional ERP activity and more closely connected to the context in which decisions occur.
NetSuite Next also changes what developers and administrators need to consider when extending the platform. NetSuite SuiteCloud Development Framework software now supports custom skills through the Agent Skill custom object that allows skills to be defined and deployed through NetSuite SuiteApp projects and account customization projects.
NetSuite SuiteScript software adds the N/runtime.isNextActive() method, which lets developers determine whether NetSuite Next is active for the current user and adjust script behavior accordingly. Oracle’s current documentation states that the method is available for client and server scripts.
The N/llm module also adds support for the Cohere Command A Vision model, which allows supported applications to provide images to a large language model for tasks such as describing images or interpreting charts and graphs.
Developers therefore need to think beyond what a customization does for a traditional user interface. They also need to consider how AI will understand the customization, what context it needs, and how the experience should behave for users working in NetSuite Next.
The arrival of more capable AI does not make ERP fundamentals less important, but it does make them more visible. Oracle’s readiness guidance for NetSuite Next tells organizations to review data quality, customizations, roles and permissions, navigation, and user familiarity with prompting. Ask Oracle uses existing account data, permissions, and customizations when returning results, insights, and actions.
Access also requires deliberate governance. Administrators can determine which eligible roles receive NetSuite Next access and separately control which roles can access Ask Oracle. Ask Oracle access is not granted to eligible roles by default.
Organizations preparing for the transition should focus on a few fundamentals:
Oracle recommends that users provide specific outcomes and relevant business context when prompting Ask Oracle and review AI-generated answers before sharing them. Doing so can help organizations move from experimenting with AI to incorporating it into controlled business processes.
The NetSuite 2026.1 release provided an early indication of where intelligent ERP was heading. AI was moving into the work itself – identifying exceptions, summarizing information, and helping people interpret what was happening across the business.
The NetSuite 2026.2 release takes the next step. With NetSuite Next, Ask Oracle, business skills, and richer AI context, AI is becoming part of the way people interact with the ERP environment. The shift changes the starting point from finding the right screen or report to articulating the business question and determining what should happen next. That evolution also makes the quality of the underlying ERP environment more consequential. Clean data, understandable customizations, appropriate permissions, and well-defined processes give AI better context from which to work.
The organizations that prepare those foundations now can be better positioned as NetSuite Next becomes available more broadly. Crowe specialists can help business leaders understand the implications of the NetSuite 2026.2 release and NetSuite Next and prepare their organizations for the next stage of intelligent ERP.
