Revenue recognition and debt vs. equity factors for life sciences

Ron Melling, Kristin Orrell, Matt Geerdes
10/26/2023

This webinar covered technical accounting and related audit issues regarding revenue recognition and financing transactions in life sciences.

These topics are particularly relevant for companies navigating the complexities in applying U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) to capital arrangements – such as debt, convertible stock, and warrants – and the revenue recognition rules for life sciences companies’ customer contracts. Additional emphasis will be placed on the audit considerations relevant to these topics to supplement the accounting discussions.

Specific focus areas include:

  • Complexities in applying ASC 606 to customer contracts, including contract research organization (CRO) arrangements, contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) arrangements, gross vs. net, and point in time vs. over time revenue recognition.
  • Terms and conditions in capital transactions that may require separate accounting per ASC 815, and as well as certain terms and conditions that impact balance sheet classification per ASC 480/ASC 718.

Note: Only attendees of the live webinar are eligible for CPE or CLE credit for qualifying webinars. If you view the webinar recording on this page you may not be eligible for CPE or CLE. For questions about CPE contact [email protected].
