A Moment of Self-Reflection: A Letter From Crowe CEO Jim Powers

6/5/2020

Over the past several days, we have struggled with how to express the anger, frustration and despair we feel over the tragic death of George Floyd and so many others that have come before him. Racism of any form is unacceptable and is not to be tolerated.

In this moment of self-reflection, we’ve been asking ourselves: Why, given so many years of injustice, have we not spoken out enough in the past? What role should we play in this conversation? And as a firm, how can we do more to stand in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and our Black personnel, clients and community members to fight against racial injustice?

We stand before you as uncertain as ever about many of the answers to those questions. What we do know with great certainty, however, is that we have a responsibility – to our Black colleagues, clients, friends, community members – to use our position to loudly declare our solidarity in the fight against racial injustice. We affirm: We are here to listen, to educate ourselves, to support you and to change. We commit to doing better. Doing so means that wrestling with these issues must be an ongoing, ever-present priority for us as a firm – not something that disappears with the current news cycle.

After all, our diverse team members’ voices, perspectives and experiences make Crowe the firm that it is today.

It’s our duty now to make sure that Crowe does everything it can to uphold and live out principles of anti-racism in everything we do; to be a place where all people can thrive; and to support the ongoing fight for social justice in any way we can. We have begun a fresh, honest dialogue, and we will continue to communicate transparently about our learnings and actions moving forward.
