Throughout August, Crowe partners and staff were delighted to volunteer for FoodCloud to help reduce food waste and redistribute to those that need it within our communities.
As a result of the impact of COVID-19, FoodCloud has seen a massive increase in the demand for their services. Working closely with key food industry partners across retail and the wider supply chain, 792 tonnes of surplus food, the equivalent of 1.9m meals, has been rescued through their three hubs in Dublin, Cork and Galway and distributed to their 700+ charity partners all over Ireland. The amount of food rescued so far this year is almost double what was redistributed during 2019.
Crowe wanted to help the great work they do as best we could. Our staff-led CSR team helped organise 10 teams of volunteers over the last five weeks to help sort and pack unwanted food for distribution to local charities at FoodCloud’s Tallaght Hub.
Huge thanks to the team at FoodCloud for allowing us to help and for providing a hugely informative and rewarding experience for everyone involved.
FoodCloud’s biggest challenge over the coming months will be maintaining and growing volumes. The majority of their charity partners expect to see an increase in the demand for food with the cessation of the Pandemic Unemployment Payment.
