Elaine is interviewed by Crowe to discuss the graduate trainee programme

Igniting Your Future Growth

Elaine Dolan is an Assistant Manager in our Tax department. In this interview, Elaine shares how Crowe Ireland's graduate programme sparks professional growth and accelerates career success.

Can you tell us a bit about your background?

I completed a degree in Business Studies in DCU and as part of that degree in Year 3 we had to complete an internship. I completed this internship with Crowe in the Corporate Finance department. After I finished my degree, I came back as a trainee into the Corporate Finance department. After a year and a half, I moved into the tax department and have been here since!

What is it about a career at Crowe that appealed to you?

You get the opportunity to work alongside senior staff and partners from day one and you're not pigeonholed into a specific area of tax (or any department).

Describe a typical day at Crowe?

Every day is different in the tax department! Generally, I would review various returns and projects completed by junior staff members throughout the day, and assist with consulting projects including the preparation of various tax advice memos and emails.

How would you describe the culture and work environment here at Crowe?

Everyone is very friendly and there is a very busy social and CSR calendar of events every year which contribute towards the friendly and open environment.

You initially joined Crowe as an intern a few years back and you've now grown into a permanent employee. How has Crowe helped you in your career development?

Crowe has helped me substantially in my career development. I have completed my ACA exams and CTA exams over the years and Crowe has supported me with these exams. Crowe has helped me gain a lot of knowledge by working alongside various staff and they have also helped me to build my confidence and people skills.

How does Crowe's graduate programme prepare you for a permanent role?

Crowe provides a diversified and well-rounded training experience to all trainees. In the tax department you are given experience in all tax heads and an opportunity to work alongside partners on various assignments.

What advice would you give to someone who is considering applying for our graduate programme?

Do it! You will gain unmatched experience from this programme and make great friends along the way.

What advice would you give to current graduates who are just starting out in their careers?

Don’t be afraid to ask lots of questions.

How has the experience of completing the graduate programme and joining the company impacted your personal and professional growth?

I have gained a wealth of knowledge from my graduate programme and have been given many opportunities to work on different assignments over the years which have helped with my career progression. Personally, the graduate programme has increased my confidence and I have also made great friends during my time here.
