The European Directive EU 2019/1937, which was incorporated into the Greek Legislation by L. 4990/2022 (G.G. A' 210/11.11.2022), introduces provisions for the protection of persons reporting breaches, threats or harm to the public interest. Too often these persons are the target of retaliation, living in a state of fear and threats.
In particular, criteria are provided for the design, establishment and operation of user-friendly reporting channels. Such criteria are an explicit obligation of information confidentiality, their access only by authorized bodies, an explicit protection of the reporting person’s identity, protection procedures both in the processing of reports and in personal data under applicable law.
