ACSC urgently advises organisations to enhance their cyber security position

Due to current political tensions between Russia and Ukraine and the new financial sanctions placed on Russia, Australian organisations may be at risk from retaliation by criminal gangs linked with Russia.

The Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) has issued a high alert that a wave of cyberattacks on Ukraine and NATO countries could spill over in coming months. “Malicious cyber activity could impact Australian organisations through unintended disruption or uncontained malicious cyber activities.”

Types of Attacks

Though the Australian government agency do not have any intelligence on the specific type of cyberattack(s) some of the typical form of attacks may come from:

• Phishing
• Ransomware
• Malicious activities (e.g. DDoS attacks)
• Malware

How do I stay secure?

The ACSC recommends that organisations urgently adopt an enhanced cyber security posture. This should include reviewing and enhancing detection, mitigation, and response measures. The ACSC has also strongly recommended that Australian organisations implement the Essential Eight.
