Crowe Romania's tax team provided specialized assistance in the takeover of the ArcelorMittal Tubular Products plant in Roman by Interpipe, contributing to the management of tax issues and supporting the decision-making process.
The operation, recently completed, marks an important milestone for the Romanian steel industry and reflects the changes in the configuration of the local market.
The production unit in Roman, which employs over 300 people, thus enters Interpipe's international portfolio and becomes its first production platform in the European Union. The acquisition supports the company's strategy of expanding in Europe and consolidating its presence in markets with high industrial potential.
At the same time, the transaction marks ArcelorMittal's withdrawal from the Romanian market, after approximately 25 years of activity.
In a broader context, this shift reflects the current capital dynamics in Central and Eastern Europe, where investments are increasingly targeting functional industrial assets and platforms that enable rapid integration into regional production chains.
In the process of acquiring the production unit in Roman, Interpipe benefited from tax assistance and consultancy from the Crowe Romania tax team, coordinated by Mitel Spătaru, Tax Partner and Mihai Erculescu, Senior Tax Manager, together with Elena Iancu, Tax Senior Supervisor and Ștefan Iana, Experienced Tax Consultant.
"We are honored to assist Interpipe in a context where transactions are becoming increasingly sophisticated and tax issues play a decisive role. We are more and more observing such repositioning in the region, generated by the increased need for efficiency, proximity and industrial integration, and Romania is emerging as a relevant market not only by potential, but also by the concrete assets it can offer to strategic investors", said the representatives of the tax team within Crowe Romania.
