The Ministry of Finance and Planning (MoFP) submitted the proposed national budget of MVR 64.2 billion for 2026 to the Parliament on 30 October 2025.

The proposed 2026 budget reflects a notable increase compared to previous years, primarily due to debt obligations totaling USD 600 million. This includes the distribution of the USD 500 million sukuk issued in 2021 and the repayment of USD 100 million to the Abu Dhabi Fund from 2018.

The Parliament approved the Budget 2026, as endorsed by the Budget Review Committee (BRC), without any amendments to the total budget amount proposed by the MoFP on 25 November 2025.

The 2026 National Budget focuses on ensuring the uninterrupted delivery of public services, supporting the achievement of broader government objectives, while maintaining macro-fiscal stability.

In addition, the 2026 budget aligns with the government’s long-term vision to transform the Maldives into a sustainable, fully developed, and self-reliant nation by 2040.
