For members of the largest corporate groups subject to the global minimum tax, the deadline for submitting the first GloBE Information Return (GIR), for the 2024 tax year, expires on 30 June 2026. The filing is linked to the OECD global minimum tax framework and is intended to provide consistent reporting of corporate groups' international tax data. In early June, the National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) and the Ministry of Finance published detailed guidance on meeting this obligation.

What does this mean in practice? The affected corporate groups must prepare the filing in the XML format prescribed by the OECD. In Hungary, it may be submitted through NAV's DACentral system, either by direct file upload or through a machine-to-machine (M2M) API connection. Proper preparation of the filing may require the collection, reconciliation and processing of significant volumes of financial and tax data. Affected companies should promptly check the status of their preparations, the necessary authorisations, and the technical conditions for submission. The GIR filing is not the same as the tax return connected with the global minimum tax or the payment of any top-up tax.
