With Victorians now in their fifth lockdown since COVID-19 hit Australia, the Victorian and Federal Governments have announced additional financial support for individuals and businesses impacted by the most recent five-day lockdown.
The lockdown restrictions, which began at 12am on 16 July 2021, were originally due to end at 11.59pm on 20 July 2021. However, the Victorian Premier acknowledged during an update today that the restrictions will be extended.
A COVID-19 disaster payment will be available to provide income support for individuals. Payments will be made in arrears and applications can be made from 23 July 2021, seven days after the commencement of the lockdown to Services Australia.
The amount of the disaster payment will not be subject to a liquid asset test and will be:
Eligible businesses such as restaurants, cafes, bars, event suppliers, tourism and accommodation providers and non-essential retailers affected by the Victorian lockdown, will receive support payments of $3,000 or $2,000 through the Licensed Hospitality Venue Fund and the Business Cost Assistance Program. These payments will automatically commence during the course of the week ending 25 July 2021. There is no need for businesses to apply.
