Industrial Emissions

Ukraine is taking an important step toward environmental modernization.

The government has adopted new rules for controlling industrial emissions, bringing the country closer to EU standards. For the first time, an official list of hazardous substances has been approved, and penalties are предусмотрені for exceeding established limits.

European experience proves the effectiveness of such measures: over the past 15 years, industrial pollution levels in EU countries have decreased by 40–85%. In Ukraine, the reform is being implemented as part of the Ukraine Facility program with EU support and requires businesses not only to provide formal reporting but also to achieve real emission reductions and implement best available technologies.

Ukrainian companies that adapt to the new requirements first will gain a competitive advantage and lay the foundation for sustainable development.

Why this matters for business

  1. Transparency and clear rules. Companies receive an official list of substances to be controlled, simplifying planning and risk management.
  2. Competitiveness in the EU market. Compliance with European environmental standards opens access to exports, investments, and partnerships with international companies.
  3. Legal certainty. Legislative frameworks allow businesses to prepare in advance and avoid unexpected costs or penalties after 2025.
  4. Innovation and resource efficiency. Implementation of BAT (Best Available Techniques) encourages equipment modernization, reduces energy and raw material costs, and improves production efficiency
  5. Reputation and social responsibility. Companies that reduce pollution gain public trust, attract investors, and strengthen their brand as environmentally responsible.

Environmental modernization is not only a legal requirement but also an opportunity for businesses to become stronger in the future.
