The coalition agreement between the SPD, Greens, and FDP states that in the future, the limit for “mini jobs” will be geared toward ten hours a week of work at minimum wage. This is one of the aims outlined in a draft piece of legislation put forward by the government to improve the protection afforded by the statutory minimum wage and make certain changes in the area of marginal employment. The upper limit on mini job earnings is to rise from € 450 to € 520 per month on October 1, 2022. The upper limit below which the overall social insurance contribution percentage is reduced for those with “midi jobs” is also to increase on October 1, 2022, going from € 1,300 to € 1,600. At the same time, the minimum wage, which currently stands at € 9.82 per hour, is to be increased to € 12.00.
