Introduction to tax for housing associations

We are delighted to reintroduce our popular course revised and expanded for 2022. 

This comprehensive expanded course has been designed to meet your needs, whether you are starting out or looking to refresh existing knowledge. New additions include an overview of corporation tax, stamp duty land tax (SDLT) and employment taxes. We know that schedules are tight therefore the course will run over four 90-minute sessions each Friday morning in September. You can choose how many sessions you wish to attend and we are offering a discount for multiple staff bookings should this be of interest to your colleagues.

Session 2: Friday 16 September 2022

  • When can VAT be recovered on costs?

Session 3: Friday 23 September 2022
Buying land

  • SDLT charges and reliefs on buying land
  • When will the vendor seek to charge VAT
  • Golden brick, disapplication and other strategies.

Session 4: Friday 30 September 2022
Developing land

  • VAT on construction and conversion works
  • Design-and-build
  • Construction Industry Scheme 
  • VAT and Corporation Tax treatment of different uses

Who should attend

  • Finance staff taking on responsibility for tax for the first time.
  • Finance staff who have experience of tax in other sectors but are new to housing.
  • Experienced finance staff wanting a refresh on how tax affects their organisation.
