The government has today announced the launch of the public sector counter fraud profession. This will provide “new standards, guidance and tools to help build counter fraud capability across 10,000 public sector counter fraud specialists.

I welcome the launch of the new public sector counter fraud profession. This should revitalise the professional counter fraud training and accreditation, that first began in 1999 and from which more than 12,000 people across public and private sectors have already benefitted.

Fraud is a serious problem which costs UK Plc £190 billion a year, according to Crowe's Annual Fraud Indicator research. A proper professional approach, measuring the nature and scale of the problem, pre-empting it where possible and reacting where necessary, must be focused on reducing the scale of fraud across the economy.
