Grants to help small and medium-sized charities

Update 21 April 2021

Organisations should be aware that there has been a revision to HMRC’s guidance on the availability of the grant funding to say that it is only available to those that are having to deal with imports/ exports for the first time. If organisations previously imported or exported goods from or to outside the EU the suggestion is that they cannot benefit from the grants. This requirement appears to be a late addition to the guidance on the availability of the grant funding and, if correct, will prevent a large number of organisations from accessing a grant. We are seeking clarification from HMRC.

The SME Brexit Support Fund could give you up to £2,000 to help with training or professional advice.

Any charity with less than 500 employees and less than £100 million turnover could be entitled to a government grant of up to £2,000 which can be used for training on:

  • how to complete customs declarations
  • how to manage customs processes and use customs software and systems
  • specific import and export related aspects including VAT, excise and rules of origin.

It can also be used to help you get professional advice so your business can meet its customs, excise, import VAT or safety and security declaration requirements following Brexit.

The application portal, which you can access below, is now open.
