Dr Sowmya Varadharajan has more than 15 years of experiences in designing, documenting and defending intercompany transactions.

Having been trained in the U.S. on international tax and transfer pricing issues through blue-chip corporations, Sowmya now applies her transfer pricing training to transfer pricing issues in the Asia Pacific region. With the growth in transfer pricing related audits in the Asia Pacific region, Sowmya has assisted clients in India, China, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore in defending their transfer pricing arrangements with tax authorities.

Highlights of Sowmya’s experience include the following:

  • Significant experience in implementing and managing large-scale transfer pricing system design and documentation projects in Europe, the U.S.A. and the Asia Pacific
  • Understanding and explaining transfer pricing compliance requirements as well as developing an in-depth knowledge of the transfer pricing regimes in the U.S.A., Singapore, China and other Asia Pacific countries
  • Defending clients in transfer pricing audits in Singapore and across the region
  • Working with clients in formulating dispute resolution strategies
  • Assisting multinational companies design and implement appropriate transfer pricing policies globally
  • Involvement in numerous valuations of companies across various industries for transfer pricing purposes
  • Published numerous articles on transfer pricing topics in regional newspapers such as The Business Times
  • Frequent presenter at conferences organised by the Singapore Accountancy Academy, ICPAS, and CCH in Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong

Sowmya is also the Author of Transfer Pricing in Singapore, published by Wolters Kluwer. She is an economist with Ph.D. in Economics from Cornell University.
