Kylie Cunningham (Indianapolis) joined Crowe in 2006 as an Audit campus hire from the University of Evansville after interning with the firm. Today she's an Audit senior manager focusing on client communication and coordination, as well as the overall supervision and review of the Audit team and staff on each engagement. For one year, in the last half of 2014 and first half of 2015, Kylie lived in Paris while working at Crowe to be closer to her then boyfriend (now husband) who was a professional basketball player in Europe.

Q: How did you make working remotely work for you, the firm and your clients?
A. After discussing my idea with my manager , I put together a plan, detailing how I would continue to serve my clients, including the technology I would use and how I would stay connected with my clients. Once my plan was approved, I met with each of my clients to explain the move and set clear expectations about how I would continue to provide the highest level of service.

Q: What did it mean to you to be given flexibility around where you chose to work?

A. Crowe's willingness to allow me to work overseas literally meant the world to me. Personally, the move allowed me to reduce the stress and difficulty of a long-distance relationship. Professionally, I was able to continue moving forward in my career. I definitely felt like the hard work I had put in over the past 10 years was appreciated by the firm and that I was an asset it didn't want to lose. In fact, when I returned from Paris, I was promoted to senior manager. I think it's great that our new mobility strategy trusts our people to explore different ways to work and will allow Crowe individuals to drive their own career path in a way that best fits their personal and professional needs, like I have.

Q: What is the biggest risk you've ever taken?
A. My decision to move to France. Leaving my family, friends and my daily routine was challenging, and requesting to work in a way that wasn't common for Crowe at the time was a huge risk. Luckily both paid off in the end.

Q. What do you enjoy doing outside of Crowe?

A. I am a basketball girl at heart. I grew up a coach's kid, played basketball in my youth and then married a basketball player. While I do still play, it mostly consists of shooting competitions. Playing one-on-one against my 6' 9" husband usually doesn't go in my favor.
