Matt Rowe (London) joined Crowe in 2015. As a Risk Consulting manager, he is responsible for management and delivery of risk and compliance services within the consumer credit industry, mainly in the United Kingdom (UK). Before he entered the world of risk management, Matt was on a path to becoming a professional cyclist. Though he ultimately took a different career path, Matt is still involved in the sport he loves, helping to run the cycling company Rowe & King along with his wife (an Olympic cyclist) and his brother (a professional cyclist).

Q. What would people be surprised to learn about you?
A. I won a European Championship in Track Cycling in 2005, representing Great Britain. At the time, I thought this was the start of a prolific sporting career, however an illness put a stop to that pretty quickly and led to me going to university and working in risk management of small and medium-size enterprises. Sporting success was luckily picked up elsewhere in my family, with my brother, Luke Rowe, becoming a professional cyclist and riding in the Tour de France for the last few years with Team Sky, and my wife, Dani Rowe, also a professional cyclist, winning a gold medal at the London Olympics in 2012.

Q. What is Rowe & King and how did you get involved?

A. Rowe & King is a cycle coaching company that I set up and now play a small role in, coaching individuals in the sport of cycling. It involves understanding the client’s cycling aims and personal circumstances and then working within these parameters to help riders achieve their goals. It’s a kind of a coaching/mentoring relationship.

Q. What’s your favorite part about working for Crowe?

A. I enjoy being able to work across a range of industries and organization types and sizes and engaging board members on a weekly basis, which offers unparalleled opportunities and experience. Within the Crowe UK Team, I have the opportunity to work with and provide input to all personnel, from our consultants to our partners. I also enjoy the flexibility to work from whatever type of location is required. It really helps with my work/life balance and certainly helps with my involvement with Rowe & King.

Q. What types of opportunities do you see for Crowe to grow in the UK?
A. I am based out of the London office, but live in Cardiff (the capital city of Wales, about 3.5 hours away), so I envision us growing into the more rural areas of the UK. I see opportunity for Crowe to work with small firms, who are often under serviced by traditional consultancies due to perceived “low revenue generation opportunities,” however these “small guys” are often the most appreciative and rewarding, whilst still generating profitable revenue. They should have an opportunity to learn and benefit from the practices of the big corporate companies.
