For Kathryn Bostick (Tampa), Crowe's Volunteer Investment Program (VIP) supports her passion for mentoring young people. Every week, Kathryn meets with a student she mentors through Starting Right, Now, a not-for-profit that supports homeless youth in and around Tampa. "As soon as students are accepted into the program, and for the rest of their lives, they are no longer alone," said Kathryn. "I talk to my student daily and see him weekly for fun activities including touring a fire station, attending a cooking class, experiencing sushi and decorating a Christmas tree. It was the first time he had decorated a tree in 10 years. It's extremely rewarding to know I'm creating lasting, positive memories when his past memories may not be so bright." Individuals who volunteer 30 or more hours in a calendar year for eligible not-for-profits can apply for a $250 VIP grant. Based on Kathryn's volunteer efforts, Starting Right, Now has earned three VIP grants from the Crowe Foundation. "The grants provide more opportunities for Starting Right, Now to expand its program and reach more homeless students in our community who are in need of a stable place to sleep at night. Together we are helping to break the generational cycle of poverty," Kathryn added.
