Ashley Novack (off-site) joined Crowe in 2012 in the Chicagoland area as part of the firm’s Learning Talent and Development team. Using her background in the hospitality and event planning industry, Ashely is Crowe’s learning project manager and coordinates events for Advisory Services programs and campus and intern onboarding programs. Supporting Crowe’s social responsibility efforts, Ashley helped plan Crowe’s first green meeting earlier this year, including things like ensuring that badges were recycled, encouraging ride-sharing and requesting the hotel use water pitchers instead of plastic bottles.
Q. Why do you think it’s important for companies to support green efforts?
A. When I was working in the hotel industry, I was also part of the green initiative team, so I was excited to have the opportunity to support Crowe’s efforts. If organizations such as Crowe really look at what they can do to help the environment, we can make a difference and preserve the Earth and better it for the future.
Q. Besides your efforts with Crowe, what do you do personally to be green?
A. I use reusable bags, reusable produce bags, reusable beeswax cover (to replace plastic food wrap), reusable straws or paper straws at parties and reusable plastic bags for snacks. My family uses reusable water bottles and reusable coffee cups. I order Imperfect produce to help with food waste around the world and have installed the Nest thermostat to help reduce the energy we use in our home.
Q. How has Crowe’s flexibility helped you manage your work/life?
A. When I had my first son, I was able to reduce the days I worked during the week, and now I dedicate Friday to being with my two boys. I also was able to take advantage of Crowe’s mobility policy and moved further from the Oak Brook office to be closer to family. My boys love being close to their grandparents, aunt, uncles and cousins.
Q. What do you enjoy doing outside of Crowe?A. You will find me at Orange Theory doing yoga, hanging out with family and experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, especially cupcakes.
