Mandy Simpson
This August, Mandi Simpson (Atlanta) begins a two-year fellowship as part of The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) Professional Accounting Fellowship program. As an independent bureau of the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the OCC charters, regulates and supervises all national banks and federal savings associations as well as federal branches and agencies of foreign banks. Through its fellowship program, the OCC seeks candidates with five or more years of experience in bank accounting and a solid understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) to banking and financial institutions. “The OCC has been asking us to participate in its fellowship program for some time, given our depth in banking, particularly with community banks,” said Sydney Garmong (Washington DC). “Mandi is an ideal candidate for this position because of her experience in working with community and mid-sized banks as well as her strong technical and writing skills.”

Sydney first approached Mandi about this opportunity two years ago. “I had just found out I was pregnant and had relocated to Atlanta just two years before,” recalled Mandi, who originally joined Crowe in 2004. “It wasn’t the ideal time and I was worried that I was giving up an opportunity of a lifetime. Thanks to Sydney for giving me a second opportunity to pursue this fellowship.” Mandi added, “I am honored to be representing Crowe at the OCC and I'm excited to have this opportunity with the goal to help Crowe further build the credentials of our banking practice. It's also a very exciting time to do this fellowship because of the recent release of Current Expected Credit Loss (CECL) standard. This opportunity gives me a chance to spend the next two years really digging in to bank accounting issues and providing community banks with guidance.” Mandi, her husband and daughter are relocating to Washington D.C. to participate in the fellowship program.
