Last month, more than 350 people attended the Chuck Allen (Oak Brook)/Crowe Leadership Lecture series at Ball State University (BSU) in Muncie, Ind. The series is designed to increase our brand awareness on campus and connect with prospective job candidates. Here’s an overview of the event, attended by BSU students, faculty and Crowe individuals, including seven of our BSU alum:
  • Kathleen Grace, founder of Grace Consulting Services, gave the keynote presentation "Identify, influence and power: the new leadership mindset." Her presentation shared research and examples behind the need for leaders to create and represent a strong sense of group identity.
  • Thirty-two high-achieving students were selected to attend a dinner after the keynote. Chuck kicked it off with the story of his journey from BSU to Crowe and where he is now in his career. Following Chuck, Brian Brueggeman (Fort Wayne) shared his experiences at Crowe and his role as the BSU school relationship manager. Brian then joined Stacey Ball (South Bend), a University Talent Acquisition manager, Michael Wardell (Indianapolis), a new Audit staff member, and Jessica Hill, who participated in Learn2Lead in 2014, was an Audit intern last year and will join Crowe full time in September 2016, for a panel discussion. The panelists answered various questions to educate and provide students with a broad overview of the public accounting profession and career paths at Crowe.
  • Students, faculty and Crowe individuals mixed and mingled to discuss the culture of Crowe and what it’s like to have an internship or full-time position with us. Chuck closed the evening with an overview of our core values and thank you to participants. We are in the process of speaking with many of the students who attended the dinner to position them for future opportunities.

Crowe also had a recruiting booth set up to connect with students throughout the day. This year’s event marked the third in the five-year lecture series offered through BSU’s Department of Accounting with support from Chuck and Crowe. The series opportunity arose after Chuck received the department’s Alumni Award of Excellence in 2012. View photos from the event on the Crowe – A Great Place to Work Facebook page.
