Last month, nearly 20 Asian People Resource Network (PRN) members from the staff to the partner levels participated in the Ascend National Convention & Career Fair in New York City. Ascend is the largest, non-profit Pan-Asian organization for business professionals, executives and students in North America. About 2,600 attended the event, which focused on the theme "be agile, innovative and bold." Attendees networked and participated in workshops on professional development and the latest tools and technologies. "All the speakers emphasized how crucial it is to lead, take calculated risks and go outside of your comfort zone," said Lina Yang (New York), an Asian PRN member and first-time conference attendee. "I learned that success doesn't come from just working really hard and putting in the extra hours. It also comes from building your network, developing your soft skills and finding mentors or sponsors to help you." Chief People Officer Julie Wood (Oak Brook) also participated in several leadership sessions. "It's always a wake-up call to see how quickly our society is changing and think about how that impacts our business," Julie said. "One key takeaway was the quote 'fail fast and fail forward.' It reminds us that we need to be willing to take risks and move fast given the pace of change in the market. When failure happens (as it invariably does), try to fail forward by learning lessons from the failure that will keep you moving ahead." With support from our Asian PRN, Crowe again served as a conference sponsor and hosted a career fair booth. Kevin O'Sullivan (Livingston) moderated a panel titled "The fast-growing importance of cybersecurity" about how cybersecurity incidents have accelerated, what companies are doing today and how to prepare for the future.

In addition to our Asian PRN, the firm also has African American, Latino and Gay and Lesbian Allies PRN groups open to everyone in the firm.
