Ascend 2016 (12)
Last month, more than 20 members of our Asian People Resource Network (PRN) from the staff member to partner level participated in the Ascend National Convention & Career Fair in Anaheim, Calif. Ascend is the largest, non-profit Pan-Asian organization for business professionals, executives and students in North America. The more than 3,000 attendees at this year’s convention networked and participated in breakout sessions about the latest tools and technologies, building personal brands and the pathway to success. “Through the sessions, I was encouraged to dispel the myths of Asian leadership, identify my cultural roots and build credibility and expertise for leadership positions at Crowe,” shared Katherine Wong (Los Angeles), a first-time conference attendee. “I realized Asians (including myself) might not be good at promoting ourselves due to our cultural roots and that soft skills and self-promotion are critical in order to advance my career. I learned to embrace what make me different and become a cultural ambassador for understanding our values and differences.” Arthur Ngo (Sacramento), also a first-time attendee, enjoyed hearing the motivational speakers share their experiences and advice on being successful in a diverse workforce. “My favorite workshop – ‘The brand is YOU’ by Hilton’s Chief Learning Officer Kimo Kippen – was about why and how to build a personal brand. I left with the key takeaways stay true to your values, strive to influence others, sacrifice to accomplish something, remember that building a brand is dynamic and must always be re-engineered and keep in mind that everything you do is discoverable.”

With support from our Asian PRN, Crowe again served as a conference sponsor and hosted a career fair booth. Additionally, Bill Brewer (Cleveland) moderated a panel session titled “Emerging Markets/International Trade” that discussed how emerging markets are increasingly reshaping the international trade and cross-border investment environment and providing unprecedented growth opportunities for companies. Our PRNs – African American, Asian, Latino and Gay and Lesbian Allies – are open to everyone at the firm. They help educate our people about diversity and provide professional and personal support to members. Visit our Diversity and Inclusion page to learn more about inclusion efforts at Crowe.
