What you can expect as an Accounting Assistant

  • Performing day to day financial transactions, including verifying, classifying and recording accounts payable data and expense claim data
  • Process outgoing payments
  • Prepare month-end journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Prepare monthly working papers
  • Produce a variety of month-end reports
  • Assist in the preparation of year-end working papers and financial statements
  • Ensure accuracy in reports, figures, and postings
  • Interact with management, employees, and vendors
  • Other accounting-related tasks as required

What will it take to be successful as an Accounting Assistant?

In order for the Accounting Assistant to be successful in their role, they should possess the following qualifications and strive for excellence in the skills listed below:

  • 5+ years bookkeeping or internal accounting experience
  • Experience in a paperless environment
  • Oracle - NetSuite experience considered an asset
  • Accounting Diploma considered an asset
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask and work well in a team setting
  • Strong MS office skills
  • Professional and courteous manner in dealing with individuals
  • The ability to organize self and others
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
