Brian Sanderson is a principal in the Crowe LLP healthcare services group. His responsibilities include overall management of the audit, consulting, and tax business units that deliver services to hospitals, health systems, physicians groups, ancillary providers, and various other continuum-of-care entities. Brian also provides advisory services and has extensive experience in the areas of revenue management and performance improvement, assisting clients by:

  • Improving revenue cycle operations and revenue realization within key areas of accounts receivable, bad debt, charge capture, denials, and underpayments
  • Utilizing Crowe proprietary benchmarking data (more than 400 hospitals) to help organizations compare performance and isolate key areas of revenue opportunity for targeted initiatives
  • Directing initiative of developing and electronic reporting of revenue cycle metrics for large health systems, including their revenue cycle vendor performance against expectations
  • Managing concurrent engagements of bad debt reduction and outpatient charge capture for large Midwest academic medical center, resulting in more than $15 million of net revenue impact
  • Directing project of accelerated accounts receivable, bad debt and denials reduction for Texas-based health system, resulting in more than $10 million of net revenue impact
  • Managing several outpatient charge capture initiatives (new charges, lost charges, technology issues, charge structure, shadow pricing) for hospitals and health systems of various sizes and complexity
  • Completing funds flow assessments at Midwest academic medical center, focusing on unfunded research
  • Developing in-sourcing and co-sourcing strategies for organizations that transitioned their revenue cycle operations from vendor-managed to self- or co-managed

Prior to joining Crowe, Brian was a partner at Ernst & Young LLP for seven years and a senior manager at Arthur Andersen LLP for six years. He was also a manager for Northwestern Memorial Hospital (Chicago) and Hinsdale Hospital (Hinsdale, Ill.).
